Corduroy | Cord | Texture | Touch & Vision

2021

A collection of jacquard textiles analyzing the relationship of the two senses: sight and touch. All six pieces relate to these senses to varying degrees. Textiles rank on the scale of tactile-visual perception focusing more on one of the two senses, or both to the same degree, balancing their interaction. The collection begins with a visually neutral textile, but the most expressive in tactile experience, and ends with textiles that also strongly engage the eye, through a strong influence of colour. Additionally, two of the pieces change colour based on the viewing angle, which involves the movement of the observer.

The collection is an experimental project, but it also has industrial production potential. The project explores the maximum expression that can be achieved with the corduroy and cord bindings, highlighting their structure.
